Parton is already fielding questions on her social media for the question and answer session. “Lifelong Dolly fan,” wrote one Instagram follower, “in articles and interviews, you get asked the same questions so often, what’s one question you wish someone would ask but never does?” Another asked, “What artists do you wish you’d collaborated with?” And a third: “What was Christmas like with the family growing up in the Smoky Mountains?”
The last question we can answer already. Parton explained her most cherished Christmas memories to InStyle. “My daddy used to cut down our tree, and my mama would help us decorate it with homemade things like popcorn string,” Parton remembered, adding “Mama was big on quilting, so we used to make bows out of her fabric scraps, and we made a big star for the top of the tree out of aluminum foil. We just got so into it. We sang songs. We always went to my grandpa’s church. And Mama and Daddy mostly made our toys, which we would open up on Christmas Eve.”
