There’s a new housewife joining the cast of Real Housewives of Potomac, and she comes with a few advanced degrees. Dr. Wendy Osefo made her Bravo debut on August 2 as RHOP aired the first episode of its fifth season. So what can we expect from the new doctor in town? Osefo has a lot going on in her life. On top of being a professor, a CEO, and a Bravo housewife, she’s also a mom of three adorable kids, including a baby who just turned one. She’s also a proud Nigerian-American who isn’t afraid to speak her mind (via Twitter).

Osefo has a serious academic pedigree
Osefo’s tagline for the RHOP opening is: “The professor has arrived, and class is officially in session.” She’s not exaggerating her academic success. She’s currently an assistant professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Education, which ranked no. 15 in Best Education Schools from U.S. News & World Report. Her research at John Hopkins focuses on the intersections between race, class, and education. She has earned degrees from Temple University, Johns Hopkins University, and Rutgers University (via Bustle).
With the pandemic interrupting in-person learning, it seems like Osefo is missing her students. In May, she posted a throwback photo from her own graduation at Johns Hopkins with a heartfelt message to her students: “Today, my students were [supposed] to walk across the stage and receive their doctoral degree. While commencement will be held virtually, that in no way mitigates your accomplishments. I am so proud of each and everyone one of you and honored to have been your professor!!” It looks like higher learning runs in Osefo’s family; she proudly posted that her younger brother was headed off to her alma mater, Temple University.

What kind of a splash will Osefo make this season? Candiace Dillard called Wendy, “Black girl magic personified” in the season trailer. Potomac veteran Karen Huger seemed to have nice things to say when she talked to E! Online about Osefo. “She’s intelligent, she’s a professor. She’s funny too, and just as with getting to know anyone you’re going to have challenges here and there but overall, Wendy was a hoot,” Karen said.
While it seems Osefo has plenty of friends in the cast, we already know she doesn’t stay totally above the fray. In the RHOP trailer, she can be seen getting into it with Ashley Darby. After Darby calls her out, Osefo fires back, “It’s Dr. Wendy. Address me correctly, sweetie.” Osefo herself told MadameNoire, “It’s going to be a really good season with a lot of twists and turns. Friendships are going to be started but they’re also going to be broken.” After all, cast members don’t last long on Bravo if they don’t bring the drama.
