Amanda Gorman’s meteoric rise since her performance on Inauguration Day has been nothing short of spectacular. In addition to her books becoming instant bestsellers, Gorman signed with IMG Models earlier this week, and now it has been announced that she will be performing at the Super Bowl, the first poet ever to do so.
Harper’s Bazaar reports that Gorman has been commissioned to write and recite an original poem celebrating three “honorary captains” who will be recognized for giving back to their communities during the pandemic: Los Angeles educator Trimaine Davis, Tampa, Florida-based nurse manager Suzie Dorner, and Marine Corps veteran James Martin of Pittsburgh. This year’s Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will air February 7 on CBS. Gorman will recite her poem as part of the pregame ceremony, according to Variety.
